We had a lot of fun at the Tattoo Expo conference last month where we were able to see a few of these more modern style tattoos. One of the new ones we saw was a large tattoo on the back of my arm that says “Hail Deathloop.

Deathloop is a time-looping game in which you run around the island trying to kill or disable Visionaries on your hunt for the eight Visionaries. The whole purpose of this game is to get your friends on Deathloop and get them to join you in killing the Visionaries. It works like this: On your hunt you can only see one Visionary at a time, but you can shoot him from up to two different angles.

Deathloop looks as vibrant and murderous as ever. But it also looks as beautiful as ever. A couple of the artists I saw worked with the same palette of colors, adding a dash of green to the background for more visual interest. The artist on the left has a similar tattoo on his arm, while the artist on the right has a new one on his arm called Deathloop.

The artist I saw seemed to be trying to create a more abstract style, with more of an emphasis on the skin. But even in his tattoos he seemed to be using an almost painterly approach, with dark colors merging into one another.
